Jewelry is so much more interesting when it carries a bit of history, and you’ll find plenty of that at AXL Jewelry store. The little boudoir near Place Brugmann invites you into the world of Axelle Delhaye, a Belgian designer who thrifts, restores and occasionally gives a modern upgrade to ancient rings, bracelets and earrings. I can’t go in without drooling over every piece and conceiving grand plans to somehow magically earn 2000€ in one day, as they do come with a price… Last time I went, I fell in love with a Victorian bead in the form of a box of playing cards, including real miniature cards! Don’t be intimidated by the price though, as she also sells other, independent designers with a more affordable price tag –think somewhere between €100 en €500. One of my favorites is Mercedes Salazar, a Colombian label bringing chunky, exotic earrings. Twice a month, the store also hosts a piercing workshop.
