Retro for the win at Pêle-Mêle

Retro for the win at Pêle-Mêle

In search of that one children’s book your nana used to read out to you every single night? Or the Super Mario Bros game that kept you up way passed bedtime? Big chance you’ll find it at Pêle-Mêle, a huge storehouse stacked with old books and games. Specialized in what they call “cultural recycling”, it offers an impressive collection of books, DVDs, video- and boardgames. Keep an eye on the store’s blog and online micro shop, as the shopkeepers tend to mention exceptional finds and offers there. Warning: there’s no romantic, derelict prettiness here, just big piles of stuff.

Another asset: Pêle-Mêle, housed in an old garage, flows right into the open kitchen and dining hall of Garage-A-Manger, an amazing brunch and lunch place. The food is nice and the retro decor, including an old van the kids can play in, is fun. To be avoided if you’re wary of loud cutlery noises and the sound of playing/screaming children, otherwise: a must!
